Dental Records FAQs

Q:     Is a patient entitled to a copy of his or her dental records?
A:     Yes.  The records include a complete copy, including diagnostic quality x-rays and notes. 

Q:     How long must a dentist retain patient records? 
A:     10 years from the last day of service. These can be retained digitally.  K.A.R. 71-1-15.

Q:     How long must lab prescriptions be saved?
A:     2 years.  K.S.A. 65-1438.

Q:     How long must spore logs be saved?
A:     3 years.  K.A.R. 71-1-18.
